Blast kills, wounds 15 policemen in S. Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, March 27 (KUNA) -- At least two policemen were killed and 13 others wounded in an explosion targeting police in southern Karachi city of Pakistan on Friday, said officials.
According to a senior police official, Ghulam Qadir, the explosives that were planted on a motorcycle, detonated as a bus of the Sindh Police's Special Security Unit passed by. Around 50 police personnel were traveling in the vehicle at the time of the blast.
Head of the Accidents and Emergency Department of the hospital, Dr. Seemi Jamali, confirmed that 15 wounded persons were brought in to the hospital for treatment, adding that two policemen later succumbed to their wounds while receiving treatment.
She said that most of the victims had suffered shrapnel injuries.
Security forces cordoned off the area and a probe into the incident went underway. Rescue teams shifted the victims to the nearby JPMC hospital.
Fear and panic gripped the metropolitan following the blast that caused damage to other vehicles in its vicinity. The blast came at a time when Rangers and police were conducting targeted operations against criminals under the directives issued by the federal government. (end) sbk.gta
