KUWAIT, March 20 (KUNA) -- 1973 -- Kuwaiti forces engaged Iraqi troops who attacked Al-Samta border post. The toll was two killed and one injured on the Kuwaiti side. Iraqi forces tried to land troops on the Kuwaiti islands of Boubyan and Warba, but were forced to withdraw after the Kuwaiti Army was put on alert. The crisis was contained politically.
1981 -- An explosive device was detonated in a Kuwaiti-Iranian naigation company office and the blast killed the building's caretaker.
1991 -- An explosive charge went off at the office of the Kuwaiti-Iranian Maritime Shipping Company. One person was killed in the fire that engulfed the office.
1991 -- The flames at the first of 727 oil wells that had been set afire by Iraqi occupation troops before their withdrawal from Kuwaiti territory were doused.
2003 -- The late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah declared state of general mobilization to beef up efforts of the armed forces to assert the state's sovereignty. A decree issued April 22 later declares state of pubic mobilization "over".
2003 -- The State of Kuwait filed an official complaint with the Arab League over Iraqi Scud missile attacks on its territory and affirmed its right to take whatever action necessary to defend its people and security.
2005 -- Mubarak Abdulaziz Al-Hasawi, one of Kuwait's senior and leading businessmen, passed away. Al-Hasawi was also a member of the Constituent Assembly of 1962 and member of the 2nd National Assembly in 1967 and the 3rd in 1971. He was also famous for charity work in Kuwait and abroad. (end) gta
