BEIRUT, Feb 19 (KUNA) -- An air shipment carrying 27 tonnes of humanitarian aid arranged by several Kuwaiti charities for Syrian refugees arrived in Lebanon on Thursday.
The shipment consists of food, dates, heaters, wheelchairs, blankets and winter utilities, according to head of the operation Bader Burhama.
The campaign will be followed up with an additional 50-tonne shipment in the near future, he told KUNA, alongside more relief batches Kuwaiti charities and the government are providing to other refugee-hosting nations.
The relief comes amid a harsh snow storm that has hit Lebanon thus increasing the suffering of refugees living in camps along the border, said Diplomatic Attache at the Kuwaiti Embassy Ahmad Al-Sabti.
Syrian refugees fleeing to neighbouring Lebanon have exceeded the one-million barrier, most of whom are concentrated in northern cities and towns like Al-Beqaa Valley, Akkar and Tripoli.
Kuwaiti state initiatives and NGOs collectively represent the biggest donors to Syrian refugees in Lebanon since the outbreak of violence in Syria began around four years ago. (end) mah.sd
