Arab League chief condemns "barbaric crime" in Libya

CAIRO, Feb 16 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary General Nabil Al-Araby has condemned "the horrific and barbaric crime perpetrated by the terrorist organization," the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, against 21 innocent Egyptians in Libya." The secretary general, in a statement late on Sunday, called on the international community to take effective measures against "this terrorist organization and its ugly crimes that have been committed against Muslims and Christians and the whole human race." The ISIL has released a video footage showing what the group called execution of the Egyptians at a beach in Libya.
Al-Araby also called for "activating the joint Arab defense treaty to safeguard common Arab security and confront terrorism." The Treaty of Joint Defence and Economic Co-operation of the League of Arab States, commonly, the Joint Defence and Economic Co-operation Treaty, is an accord among the member states of the Arab League, signed on June 18, 1950 in Cairo.
It aims at coordination among the Arab states to jointly resist "external threats." (end) mfm.aff.rk
