UN condemns attack on mosque in Sindh, Pakistan

NEW YORK, Jan 31 (KUNA) -- UN Chief condemned the bombing of a Shia mosque in Sindh province in Pakistan, which has reportedly killed at least 54 people gathered for prayer.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is appalled by such vicious targeting of people on account of their religious affiliation, his press office said in a statement late Friday.
He called upon the authorities to redouble their efforts to protect religious and ethnic minorities in Pakistan and to combat terrorism in all its forms, the statement added.
Furthermore, the UN official extended his condolences to the families of the victims and his sympathies to the Government and people of Pakistan.
Earlier Friday, an explosion occurred inside a central Imambargah (worship place for Shia Muslims) just after the Friday prayers.(end) mao.ag
