UNSC looks forward to Syria donor conf. in Kuwait

NEW YORK, Jan 28 (KUNA) -- The members of the UN Security Council look forward to the upcoming donors conference to be held in Kuwait this March, said Ambassador Cristian Barros, of Chile, on Wednesday.
Speaking reporters after closed-door consultations by the UNSC, Barros, Chile's Permanent Representative and President of the Council for the current month, said the Council members are alarmed by the humanitarian impact of the winter storm on the Syrian population, particularly refugees and internally displaced persons.
The member of the Council, he said, call upon all UN member states to support the UN relevant humanitarian organizations and the host countries in the region, including, by supporting the 2015 Syria response plan.
In this regard, "the members of the Security Council look forward to the upcoming donors conference in Kuwait," he said.
Furthermore, Ambassador Barros expressed on the behalf of the UNSC members, their great concern over the violations and abuses of human rights, including the attacks on the civilians in Syria.
He then called on the parties to restrain from such attacks and respect their obligations under the international law and relevant UN security council resolutions.
Ambassador Barros told the reporters, that the members of the UNSC reiterated the demand on all parties to immediately implement in full the provision of UNSC resolution 2139, 2165, 2191 and other presidential statements on this matter. He then emphasized that the humanitarian situation will continue to deteriorate in the absence of political solution. (end) mao.gb
