Saudi Arabia beats Kuwait, clinch 3rd Gulf Cup U-23s title

MANAMA, Jan 28 (KUNA) -- Saudi Arabia beat Kuwait, 5-2, to win football's Gulf Cup for Men's Under-23s in Manama on Wednesday, adding a third record title to their list in the tournament.
The goals came thick and fast for former runners-up Saudi Arabia as their opponents, on the other hand, missed the opportunity to win the title for the first time, instead leaving as runners-up for the second time since 2010.
Despite attempting a comeback one minute into the second half after being two goals down, Al-Azrag found it hard to contain a fierce offensive from the Saudis, whose five goals were scored in an all-round contribution which kept on going right into the fourth minute of stoppage time.
There were some positives from the Kuwaiti performance though as the nation's lead scorer Ahmed Hezam put two past his opponents, setting him up as a good future prospect and a contender for a senior place.
By the time he scored his side's second in the 86th minute, the Saudis were already four goals up after a most-recent penalty tucked in by Abdulmajid Al-Sulaiheem.
Meanwhile, in an earlier match, Oman beat the United Arab Emirates, 2-1, to take third. (end) mga.sd
