GENEVA, Jan 28 (KUNA) -- Minister of Health Dr. Ali Al-Obaidi said here on Wednesday the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) is contemplating enlisting the Award of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad on the agenda of the annual conference. In a statement to KUNA, Al-Obaidi said that tabulating the Award on the agenda of General Assembly of WHO coincides with the support by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as a humanitarian leader for his generous donations to the medical field.
"Members of the Executive Board of the WHO greatly appreciated efforts by His Highness the Amir as he was a first donor and supporter to the WHO's efforts in combating the outbreak of Ebola virus. The Amir donated USD five million," the minister said. The WHO also evaluated support by His Highness the Amir for the scientific and medical researches, he noted.
The 136th session of WHO Executive Board has many files that should be discussed to be presented to the WHO General Assembly next May, he said, noting there is great interest in promoting international efforts to combat Ebola.
"We also reviewed Kuwait's efforts to prevent the spread of Ebola in the country due to efforts by the supreme committee for combating epidemic diseases," he added. (end) ta.hm
