Kishida, Kerry confirm cooperation on world peace, ISIS hostage crisis

TOKYO, Jan 27 (KUNA) -- Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and US Secretary of State John Kerry confirmed on Tuesday that the two countries will continue to work together toward world peace and stability.
During their telephone conversation, Kerry showed a sense of solidarity with Japan on the Islamic State hostage crisis and said he highly appreciates Japan's efforts to peace and stability of the Middle East region, according to a press release from the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
In response, Kishida expressed gratitude for the solidarity demonstrated by President Barack Obama, Kerry and the US government concerning the ongoing crisis and pledged Tokyo's utmost efforts for the rescue of the remaining Japanese hostage.
Their talks came after the release of an online video by the Islamic State militant group on Jan. 24 showing a still image of the 47-year-old freelance journalist Kenji Goto holding a picture of what looked like the body of fellow hostage Haruna Yukawa, 42.
On Tuesday's talks, Kishdia and Kerry also shared the recognition that they will not succumb to terrorism, and will continue to work together with the international community for the peace and stability of the world. (end) mk.tg
