GCC initiative sponsors express deep concern over political turmoil in Yemen

SANAA, Jan 26 (KUNA) -- Ambassadors of the 10 countries sponsoring the GCC's Yemen initiative, and other envoys, expressed deep concern Monday over deteriorating political situation, rejecting use of violence for political gains.
A statement by the ambassadors, joined by the envoys of Germany, Japan, the Netherlands and Spain, said Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansur Hadi and Prime Minister Khaled Bahah have resigned "as a reaction to pressure they have been exposed to by elements who wanted to undermine the transitional phase." They said placing ministers or government officials under house arrest or kidnapping them were totally illegitimate.
The ambassadors said the Yemeni people have suffered for a long time, and were still facing huge humanitarian and security challenges, like outlawed armed militias and Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
The objective of all Yemeni people, they said, should be the continuation of the peaceful and legitimate political process in line with a specific timetable and based on outcome of the national dialogue, and the peaceful and partnership agreement. (end) az.bs
