Radical Coalition Party wins parliamentary elections in Greece

ANKARA, Jan 26 (KUNA) -- Radical Coalition Party (Syriza), led by Alexis Tsipras won the Greek parliamentary elections, Interior Ministry announced on Monday.
Greek media outlets reported that Syriza Party won 36.3 percent of the total votes, which offers the party 148 seats in the parliament, while New Democracy Party achieved 28.15 percent of total votes, possessing 77 seats, whereas Golden Dawn Part took 6.35 percent, gaining 17 seats only.
A total of seven parties, out of 21 will be represented in the parliament, as the wining party should gain 40 percent of the total counted votes in order to possess 151 parliamentary 300 seats, allowing the party to be a majority in the parliament and form the government.
"Greeks gave a strong and clear message, and set example of developing history" Tsipras said in front of crowds who celebrated the party's wining of the elections.
"Troika era is over" he added, in indication to the biggest lenders of Greece, namely The European Union, International Monetary Fund (IMF), and The European Central Bank (ECB).
Tsipras vowed to renegotiate on rescheduling Greece's debts with international lenders, besides reviewing the austerity measures that was adopted by the former government since the outbreak of the economic crisis in 2010.
The Greek presidency issued a decree in December 31 of year 2014 to dissolve the parliament, following the failure to elect a new president for the country for the third consecutive time, as the current president Karolos Papoulias will end his term in March of 2015.
The conservative Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, and leader of New Democracy Party suggested holding parliamentary elections in order to elect a new president.
Stravos Dimas, the government's candidate led by conservatives and the former European Commissioner gained 168 out of 200 votes in the final round of the presidential elections. (end) rs.lb
