Int'l coalition launch 26 airstrikes on ISIL in Syria, Iraq since Friday

WASHINGTON, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- International coalition forces, led by the US, launched over Friday and Saturday some 26 airstrikes on Islamic State (ISIL) militants in Syria and Iraq.
Some 13 airstrikes were reported in Syria using attack, bomber, fighter, and remotely-piloted aircraft in Syria, according to the Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve.
These included 12 airstrikes near Kobani and near Al-Hasakah which struck eight ISIL tactical units and a large ISIL unit. The airstrikes also destroyed a vehicle, a building, eight fighting positions and a mobile oil drilling rig belonging to ISIL.
Meanwhile in Iraq, attack, bomber, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft conducted some 13 airstrikes.
Near Al-Qaim, an airstrike destroyed an ISIL weapons production facility, while near Mosul some five airstrikes that struck two large ISIL units, an ISIL choke point, an ISIL culvert, and four ISIL roads, and destroyed an ISIL culvert and an ISIL vehicle were witnessed.
Near Ramadi, an airstrike destroyed an ISIL vehicle, while near Tal Afar, five airstrikes struck a large ISIL unit, two ISIL tactical units, an ISIL cantonment area, and an ISIL vehicle, and destroyed an ISIL building, six ISIL vehicles, an ISIL bunker, two ISIL shipping containers, and two ISIL checkpoints.
Near Irbil, an airstrike destroyed an ISIL shipping container, two ISIL vehicles, and three ISIL earth moving vehicles.
The raids are being conducted as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, the coalition say, is aimed at eliminating the threat of the militant group, ISIL, on Iraq, Syria, the region, and the wider international community.
Coalition nations conducting airstrikes in Iraq include the US, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Netherlands and Britain, while those in Syria include the US, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. (end) yt.sd
