GENEVA, Jan 14 (KUNA) -- Representatives of the Libyan political forces started a new round of dialogue here on Wednesday in a bid to solve the country's crisis, said Bernardino Leon, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Libya and Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
This round of the UN-brokered dialogue is indirect and aims to lay the framework of bounding accords on ceasefire and an effective and inclusive interim government, Leon told reporters.
He regretted the "catastrophic political, security and economic situations" in Libya, warning that the turmoil threatens to have a spill-over on neighbouring countries and the Mediterranean basin at large.
Leon ruled out the possibility of reaching a solution to the crisis soon, noting that the negotiating process will take time and requires reciprocal concessions by all Libyan parties.
He expected that the current round will last until Friday or Saturday and then resume on Monday at another venue.
The Tripoli-based Libyan parliament boycotts the talks and could hopefully change its stance on Sunday, he added. (pickup previous) ta.gb
