PARIS, Dec 22 (KUNA) -- European aircraft maker Airbus said Monday that the previously-delayed delivery of the first A-350-WXB mid-to-long-range carrier to Qatar Airways had been carried out two weeks after the scheduled date.
The delay was due to adjustments that needed to be made at the request of Qatar Airways, an industry source said.
Qatar has ordered a total of 80 A-350 planes.
Airbus said in a statement that Qatar, as the "launch customer" of the A-350, will add another dimension to its existing wide-body fleet of A-330s and giant "super jumbo" A-380s, and it affirmed the A350 will fit in "seamlessly" with the expanding Qatar fleet.
The A-350 is expected to be a strong rival to Boeing's 787 "Dreamliner", which has just come on to the market, and for the older Boeing 777 plane.
The A-350 is a twin-engine carrier with a capacity of over 315 passengers and a range of 14,500 kilometres".
The A-350 is the latest addition to the Airbus catalogue and offers fuel-efficiency and is built with carbon fibre fuselage and wings, just like the Boeing 787.
So far, the A-350 has received 778 orders from 41 customers worldwide. (end) jk.mt
