KUNA, MENA discuss bolstering ties

CAIRO, Dec 21 (KUNA) -- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) Board Chairman and Director General Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij Al-Ibrahim Al-Sabah stressed here on Sunday the importance of enhancing Arab media cooperation for its momentous role in developing the Arab societies.
Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij made the statement to KUNA following his talks in Cairo with Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Egypt's Middle East News Agency (MENA) Alaa Haider.
They discussed the necessity of bolstering cooperation between the two agencies amid the challenging events sweeping the region, Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij said.
He added that the talks focused on a host of media files and issues of common interest, as well as means of activating a KUNA-MENA agreement through exchanging of officials' visits, training and expertise to keep pace with the latest media technology for promoting bilateral cooperation, and the Arab media scene.
According to Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij, the Arab media, especially news agencies, has a leading role to play, namely to highlight and support the Arab issues on all levels.
Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij emphasized the deep relations between the Kuwaiti and Egyptian agencies, saying they look forward to enhancing them.
In addition, the KUNA Chairman highlighted MENA's role in serving the Arab media, saying he has invited Haider to visit KUNA.
Talking to KUNA, the MENA Chairman and Editor-in-Chief underscored Kuwait's backing of Arab issues, particularly constant political and economic support to Egypt.
He welcomed Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij and his accompanying delegation to the MENA headquarters at the heart of Cairo, saying the two agencies enjoy "deep-rooted ties." Haider underlined the "distinguished media services" KUNA offers.
Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij is on a several-day visit to Cairo where he will meet with leading media officials and open the new KUNA office. (end) ms.mab.msa
