AMMAN, Dec 21 (KUNA) -- Iran continues to give full support to all efforts, based on democracy and peoples' decision, to end the three-year conflict in Syria, the Iranian parliament speaker said here on Sunday.
Iran's Shura Council Speaker Ali Larijani made this remark to the press after meeting his Syrian counterpart Mohammad Jihad Al-Laham in Damascus.
During the meeting, the two officials discussed the latest development on endeavors that have been made to end the Syrian crisis, especially that of the UN mediator in the Syrian conflict Staffan de Mistura who proposed to suspend hostilities between government and opposition forces in northern Syria.
Larrijani reiterated his country's backing to any solution that will end the Syrian conflict; nonetheless, this solution should be based on democracy and the peoples' decision.
He added that Tehran is in favor of Russia's efforts to restart peace talks on Syria by hosting a meeting between the rival sides (the government and the opposition) in Moscow in January.
Before leaving for Lebanon, Larijani will meet Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader Al-Halqi.
Iran's Parliament Speaker arrived in Damascus earlier today as the first stop of his official tour of three regional countries: Syria, Lebanon and Iraq.
