GCC drug registration meeting kicks off

KUWAIT, Dec 21 (KUNA) -- The 69th meeting of the Gulf Central Committee for Drug Registration (GCCDR) kicked off on Sunday under patronage of Minister of Health Dr. Ali Al-Obaidi.
The meeting is a top priority for the GCC Health Ministers for it serves joint health programs of the Council's member states, said Assistant Undersecretary of Technical Affairs in the Ministry of Health, Qais Al-Duweiri, in a statement, addressed to the conferees on his behalf by a ministry official.
Since 1998, the GCC countries have been sharing a unified drug registration program under the committee's supervision, to ensure safety and quality of medicines, he said.
The committee had issued a guide to monitor drugs post-marketing in its 52nd conference in 2001, to study their side effects, quality and report any bad medicines in coordination with pharmacies, said Al-Duweiri.
