Bahrain detains 5-member terror cell

MANAMA, Dec 20 (KUNA) -- Bahrain Terror Crime Prosecution Chief Attorney General Ahmed Al-Hamadi said Saturday that five people have been remanded in custody pending investigation in connection with the terror blast which left one on-duty policeman dead in Demistan on December 8.
Bahrain news agency (BNA) quoted Al-Hamadi as saying "the accused are also implicated in the terrorist bombing which caused the death of a Bahraini and left one Asian passer-injured the following day in Karzakan.
Bahrain's Public Prosecution has charged them with forming a terror group, murder and attempted murder, bomb-making and possession of explosives for terrorist purposes.
The Public Prosecution also ordered other terrorist accomplices, who are still at large, to be identified, tracked down and brought to justice to face charges in connection with the twin terror blasts.
An police inquiry has revealed that a group of saboteurs plotted to set up a terror group with the aim of targeting policemen's lives, subverting Bahrain's internal security and stability and fomenting riots.
The inquiry has also established the existence of a link between the twin terror blasts in Demistan and Karzakan which enabled police to reveal the identity of some perpetrators.
Appearing before the Terror Crime Prosecution, the five accused confessed to the counts of charges which were leveled against them.
The five accused have also re-enacted the twin explosions, detailing their roles in the terrorist bombings.
One of them had also led police, as he was being arrested, to an abandoned house which was used by saboteurs as a cache to store their tools, in a addition to a launcher, and home-made pellet gun.
The accused have also admitted their roles in the plot to kill policemen while on duty at the Demistan Security Station using a launcher and a cell phone which they hid near the station.
They were also involved in fomenting riot attacks on the station with firebombs with the intent of luring security forces and ambushing them, a scenario which left an on-duty policeman dead due to the terror blast. (end) mga.mb
