Kuwait hosts GCC medical meeting on Sunday

KUWAIT, Dec 20 (KUNA) -- The Ministry of Health is set to play host to the 96th meeting of the Gulf Central Committee for Drug Registration (GCCDR), which is affiliated to the Executive Office of the GCC Health Ministers' Council, here between December 21-24.
This was announced by Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Technical Affairs and Member of the GCC Health Ministers' Council Dr. Qais Al-Duweiri in a press release here on Saturday.
Drug registration is a top priority of the GCC member states' joint health programs due to its respective paramount significance, especially regarding the production of safe and effective drugs, he said.
Drug registration is conducive to the provision of drugs and medical products at competitive and reasonable prices in all the six GCC countries, he opined.
Several resolutions have been adopted by the GCC health ministers in order to unify regulations governing the registration of pharmaceuticals, including a single system for drug registration and control, and uniform drug guidelines, the health official added.
Drug registration is also meant to unify the prices of all types of drugs and medical products in all the GCC member states, and to easily monitor the quality and side-effects of drugs, he pointed out.
The main goals of the Gulf Central Committee for Drug Registration (GCCDR) include, registration of pharmaceutical companies, registration of pharmaceutical products, inspection of pharmaceutical companies for good manufacturing practices (GMP) compliance, approval of quality control laboratories (QCL), and reviewing of technical and premenstrual syndrome (PMS) reports, he elaborated.
