JEDDAH, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- Islamic Development Bank (IDB) received a USD 35 million donation from King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia to support combating the spread of Ebola in West Africa.
President of IDB Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali Al-Madani told the press, on Thursday, that donation funds will be directed towards providing health centers, schools and communal transportation with the necessary tools to fight the battle against the outbreak and to help spotting any early signs of the virus.
The funds will also be used in establishing treatment centers in the worst-affected countries of Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea, he added.
He noted that another treatment center will be held in Mali where few cases of the Ebola virus were reported.
Through this donation IDB will be able to enhance the infrastructure of the virus-hit countries to combat the current outbreak, or any future outbreaks. It will also help saving thousands of lives and protecting thousands of others against infection. (end) nh.nfm
