KUWAIT, Dc 7 (KUNA) -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah received on Sunday Commander of the US Central Command, Major General Michael Nagata, discussing a number of issues of common interest.
The Ministry of Defense said in a statement the two sides discussed key issues of mutual concern, particularly military affairs. It quoted the defense minister as affirming keenness on bolstering the bilateral ties with Washington.
The meeting was attended by ranking military commanders and officers.
The US is Kuwait's major ally. The bilateral ties between the two countries have been strengthened, particularly since Washington spearheaded an international coalition that drove occupation Iraqi troops out of the country ending the seven-month stranglehold on Kuwait that began on August 2, 1990. The two have been bonded with a military treaty.(end) hmd.aas.rk
