Arab League, EU to foster joint strategic dialogue

CAIRO, Dec 1 (KUNA) -- Draft of a strategic dialogue between the Arab League and the European Union (EU) was the main topic on the agenda of a bilateral meeting held in Cairo on Monday.
The gathering brought together the League's permanent delegates and the ambassadors of the EU Political and Security Committee.
Today's meeting comes in line with the joint statement issued by the League and the EU in Athens last June.
Kuwait's delegation to the meeting was led by Permanent Delegate to the Arab League Aziz Al-Dihani.
During the meeting, Arab League Deputy Secretary General Ahmad bin Hilli, underscored the significance of the gathering as a framework for a political dialogue and a mechanism to discuss issues of mutual interest.
He thanked the European countries that recognized the State of Palestine and the European parliaments seeking a settlement to the Palestinian cause, as the key to security and stability in the region.
Bin Helli lauded the "Tunisia experience" on the way to reinforce pillars of democracy, at the time when other countries are facing obstacles.
Terrorism and cross border-crimes constitute a major issue in the strategic coordination with the EU, according to the Arab League's senior official. (end) abd.fm.msa
