Parliamentary committee discusses with Dutch officials report on human rights

KUWAIT, Nov 24 (KUNA) -- Parliament's Human Rights Committee (HRC) here on Sunday discussed related issues in the presence of a visiting Dutch delegation, including Human Rights Ambassador Kees van Baar and Foreign Ministry's senior official Nicole Maes.
In a press statement after the meeting, the HRC's rapporteur MP Abdulhameed Dashti said that the aim of the delegation's visit is to shed light on preparations by the Kuwaiti government and National Assembly for submitting a report on human rights due on January 28, 2015.
"The delegation discussed with the committee the full developments of human rights and legislations," he added, noting that they focused on the freedoms of religion, opinion and expression as well as human and women's rights.
Dashti pointed out that the delegation hailed Kuwait's humanitarian contributions and its status of human rights, indicating it praised the UN naming of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a "humanitarian leader" and Kuwait as a "humanitarian center".
The delegation, he said, reviewed with the HRC notes that the National Assembly intends to add in the report, noting that the HRC will meet with the Foreign Ministry to formulate the draft of the report on December 8.
Parliamentary and governmental delegations as well as some non-governmental organizations (NGOs) will be present at United Nations Human Rights Council to submit the report due on January 28-30, Dashti said. (end) rkh.gkh.hm
