Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) signes the donation agreement
AMMAN, Nov 23 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) donated USD 18 million to Jordan Sunday as part of Kuwait's efforts to help regional countries cope with influx of Syrian refugees.
The grant agreement was signed by KFAED Director General Abdulwahab Al-Bader and Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Ibrahim Saif.
The bulk of the donation, USD 15 million, would fund the improvement of health care for Syrian refugees, Al-Bader told KUNA after the signing ceremony.
The rest USD three million, he added, would be used to improve municipality services in the northern Irbed and Mafraq governorates, where large numbers of Syrian refugees live.
The grant, said Al-Bader, was in compliance with resolutions of the first donors conference for the Syrian refugees that was hosted by Kuwait in January 2013.
Saif said the grant aimed at helping the Jordanian government confront challenges posed by the huge numbers of Syrian refugees.
KFAED constributed around 172 million Kuwaiti Dinars (KD) to development projects in Jordan between 1962-2013. (end) ab.bs
