Russia accuses West of plotting to oust its ruling regime

MOSCOW, Nov 22 (KUNA) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused the Western powers that, by imposing sanctions on his nation, of plotting to topple the ruling regime in Russia.
The West is not seeking to alter politics in Russia, but is actually trying to change the regime in Moscow, the Russian news agency, Tass, quoted Lavrov as saying on Saturday.
He also charged the United States of seeking to impose "its hegemony on the globe through ouster of political regimes that it does not favor." There is a huge gap between Washington's aspirations and its realistic capacities, he said.
Western powers "have thrown their weight in Ukraine with aim of cornering Russia," Lavrov said.
Washington has accused Russia of backing separatists in eastern Ukraine. (end) as.rk
