Earthquake of 6.0 magnitude jolts Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Nov 21 (KUNA) -- The earthquake tremors were felt in Pakistan's federal capital Islamabad and northwestern parts including Peshawar, Mansehra and surrounding cities on Friday.
According to United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the 5.2 magnitude earthquake was located in Afghanistan near the border with Pakistan and Tajikistan and at a depth of 232.4 kilometers.
The intensity of the quake was higher in Mardan, Buner, Swabi and Malakand divisions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province as compared to provincial capital Peshawar.
According to a spokesperson of Pakistan metrology office, the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.0 in some northern parts of the country but there were no immediate reports of any casualties or damage.
Fear and panic gripped the areas hit by the jolts where people made their way to open spaces and buildings were evacuated.
Earlier in 2005, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck the country that killed more than 73,000 people and left about 3.5 million homeless. (end) sbk.ibi
