BEIRUT, Nov 19 (KUNA) -- The Lebanese parliament has failed for the 15th time to elect a new president of the republic to replace former President Michel Sleiman due to lack of quorum.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Nabih Berri adjourned Wednesday's presidential election session to December due to failure to secure quorum, the speaker's office said in a statement here on Wednesday.
Two thirds of the 128-member parliament are required for a presidential session to be held.
Lebanon's fiercely divided 128-member legislature, tasked with choosing a new head of state, has been unable to agree on a consensus candidate to replace former President Michel Sleiman, whose five-year term ended on May 25. (end) mah.mt
