Visitors to Jerusalem should not be stigmitized -- Erekat

KUWAIT, Oct 29 (KUNA) -- Visiting Palestinian chief peace negotiator Dr. Saeb Erekat urged for allowing visitors from Arab countries to Jerusalem without stigmatizing them as seekers of "normalizing relations with Israel." Erekat highlighted Kuwait's ongoing support to the Palestinian cause which was made stronger after First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah visited Al-Aqsa Mosque recently. These remarks were made at a seminar held, Tuesday evening, which discussed the Palestinian new strategy after the collapse of peace negotiations with Israel and the deterioration of instability in the region.
During the lecture, Erekat laid out a new plan, which will be in effect next month, to establish an independent Palestinian state by 2017. The plan will help to break the stalemate of these negotiations to pave the way for announcing the establishment of two states based on the boundaries that existed before the 1967 border line.
A statehood resolution is overdue for Palestine especially since it gained a non-Member Observer State status in the United Nations, he said, hoping that the United States would not oppose to any unilateral moves towards statehood.
The first step of implementing the plan will mainly count on the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) to be the only legitimate representative of the Palestinian people. The next move will be holding elections for Palestinian National Council.
The seminar was part of a Palestinian cultural activities organized by National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, in collaboration with the Palestinian embassy. (end) sfm.nfm
