Arab League organizes celebrations over UN honoring of His Highness Amir

CAIRO, Oct 28 (KUNA) -- The Arab League said Tuesday it would organize a celebration on the occasion of the UN honoring of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a "Humanitarian Leader, and Kuwait as a "Humanitarian Center." The celebration, co-organized with Kuwait's Embassy to Egypt and the country's Permanent Mission to the Arab League, is to highlight His Highness the Amir's humanitarian contributions for the people in need around the world, the pan-Arab organization said in a statement.
"His Highness the Amir has placed Kuwait at the core of the global humanitarian work," said Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazala, Arab League Assistant Secretary General for Media and Communications.
Kuwait has been at the fore of countries helping the poor, needy and suppressed people around the world regardless of their religion, gender or sect, she added in a statement.
Kuwait hosted two conferences to help the Syrian refugees. Pledges in the two conferences amounted to some USD 3.6 billion, of them Kuwait contributed USD 800 million.
Abu Ghazala also highlighted Kuwait's support to health domain, citing the USD five million donation for the World Health Organization (WHO) to help it confront Ebola virus.
She said Kuwait was small in size but the Arab Gulf country has giant charity contributions reaching everyone. (end) mfm.bs
