U.S. condemns deadly "terrorist attack" in Jerusalem

WASHINGTON, Oct 23 (KUNA) -- The United States condemns "in the strongest possible terms the terrorist attack in Jerusalem," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.
"We express our deepest condolences to the family of the baby, reportedly an American citizen, who was killed in this despicable attack, and extend our prayers for a full recovery to those injured," Psaki said in a statement, released late on Wednesday. "We urge all sides to maintain calm and avoid escalating tensions in the wake of this incident." A three-month-old girl, identified as Chaya Zissel, was killed, and several U.S. citizens and Israelis were wounded when a "convicted Palestinian terrorist" from the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan rammed his vehicle into a crowd of people, officials announced in Jerusalem.
"The terrorist was shot by police and later died in hospital," the Israeli officials said. (end) rm.rk
