Arab League warns against Knesset bill to divide Al-Aqsa Mosque

CAIRO, Oct 22 (KUNA) -- Arab League has warned against Israel's scheme of dividing and Judaizing Al-Aqsa Mosque, putting full responsibility on the Israeli government for disregarding all international resolutions regarding the sanctity of the city of Jerusalem.
The Israeli Knesset is expected to decide on a new bill next month which calls for both a temporal and spatial division of al-Aqsa Mosque compound between Muslims and Jews.
In a press statement on Wednesday, the Arab League said that it warned against this scheme "numerous times." It also condemned the international community's silence against all Israeli aggression committed against the Palestinian worshipers that could lead to instability in the region.
Hence, it said the international community, especially the UN Security Council with all its bodies and committees, should immediately interfere to stop this sacrilege.
According to sources, the Knesset bill will give Jews permission to pray at Al-Aqsa Mosque as part of a proposed equal right of worship for both Muslims and Jews. The bill aims to specify certain times and places for Jews to perform their religious prayers and Talmudic rituals.
The bill also calls for banning protests against Jews' entry into the compound and imposing penalty on whoever participates in or organizes such actions. (end) ms.nfm
