UN Envoy Al-Matouq in Sudan to inspect humanitarian situation

KHARTOUM, Oct 21 (KUNA) -- Humanitarian Envoy Dr. Abdullah Al-Matouq arrived here late Monday to inspect the humanitarian situation in Sudan.
Al-Matouq told KUNA that he was in Sudan on a joint visit with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres, adding that they will pay visits to areas and camps housing refugees and the displaced.
Al-Matouq noted that recent statistics estimated that there were over 100,000 refugees in the country mostly from the Republic of South Sudan.
He indicated that the current visit will also include a meeting with Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir and senior state officials. (end) hha.gta
