Kuwait committed to relations with China on all fronts - Info Minister

KUWAIT, Oct 15 (KUNA) -- The planned opening of a new Kuwait News Agency bureau in China is an important step in relations between both countries, said Minister of Information and State Minister for Youth Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah.
At a meeting with the visiting Editor-in-Chief of Chinese news agency, Xinhua, He Ping on Wednesday, the Kuwaiti minister said that relations will be served through reporting what happens in China "completely and correctly", adding "this will bring closer both peoples." In turn, he said, the Ministry of Information and KUNA will not cease to provide all forms of assistance to the Xinhua bureau in Kuwait, for it to do the same in the other direction.
Kuwait is always keen on bridging its relations on the scales of economy, culture and humanitarian affairs with all friendly nations, including China, he said.
Kuwait also seeks to adopt agreements that encourage closer ties, he added, referring to the Silk Road as one of the older forms of integration on the Asian continent.
The recent visit of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to China came to support this strategic economic relationship, he added, mentioning that Kuwait - as an Asian nation - is proud of the progress made by China in this regard.
Xinhua has made massive strides in development and has been exceptional in its news and analytical coverage, he said, adding that Kuwait seeks to expand this success through forming solid media relations, including staff exchange visits.
For his part, Xinhua chief He said that relations are solid and are witnessing huge development due to mutual interests on the fields of culture, media, youth, econmy, trade and humanitarian affairs.
The Silk Road and the Marine Silk Route called for once more by the current Chinese President Xi Jinping, and instilled after the visit of the Kuwaiti premier, do not only focus on the fields of economy and trade, but go beyond that to include media, culture and humanitarian affairs in service of mutual interests.
The Chinese people will not forget that Kuwait was the first Gulf nation to recognize the 'new China' and was the first to host a Xinhua bureau - this has greatly helped develop relations between both countries.
Xinhua is ready to work with KUNA, he said, adding that a meeting with KUNA Chairman and Director General Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij Al-Ibrahim Al-Sabah was fruitful, resulting in plans to sign an agreement in the not too distant future. (end) mdm.sd
