His Highness the Amir receives UN envoy

KUWAIT, Oct 15 (KUNA) -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received on Wednesday the visiting UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.
Emerging from the meeting with His Highness the Amir, the UN envoy said it was a great honor to meet the Amir, indicating that he had also met with His Highness the Premier and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Talks with His Highness the Amir dealt with the situation in Syria and the crisis repercussions on the region, de Mistura said, and the "need to assist everyone who has been affected by it.
"As you know Kuwait has been extremely generous financially, and in organizing important international meetings for that (purpose)." The international delegate indicated that he concurred with His Highness the Amir on necessity to maintain future coordination noting that the rising power of the militant group, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, has underlined the need for resolving the Syrian conflict politically.
"The ISIL has taken large portions of not only Iraq but also Syria and through its own violence it showed the type of horror that it can produce." The UN envoy added that he jointly hope with His Highness the Amir that the Syrian conflict be resolved. (end) rk
