UNSC condemns Al-Qaeda sponsored attacks on Yemen

NEW YORK, Oct 14 (KUNA) -- The Security Council expressed deep concern on latest developments in Yemen and condemned the growing number of terrorist attacks sponsored by Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
The United Nations Security Council reaffirmed Monday evening its support of Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi and his efforts to implement the Gulf Cooperation Council's initiative, Maria Cristina Perceval, Permenant Representative of Argentina to the UN told the press after they have been briefed by Special Adviser to the Secretary General on Yemen Jamal Ben Omar.
Perceval, who is also the President of the Security Council for the month of October, urged all parties in Yemen to implement the peace and national partnership agreement.
In this context, the Council welcomed the nomination of Khalid Bahah as the new Prime Minister, and urged the Yemeni authorities to expedite the process of reforms including army and security sector.
"The action of spoilers is threatening the peace, security and stability of Yemen," Ben Omar told the Council.
Therefore, the Council recalled the provisions of resolution 2140 where sanctions to be taken against such individuals or entities designated by the Committee as engaging in or providing support for acts that threaten the peace, security or stability.(end) mao.gta
