French, Turkish FMs to meet on ISIL in Paris Friday

PARIS, Oct 9 (KUNA) -- French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius will meet here Friday with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu to discuss strategic cooperation between the two nations but the talks are certain to mainly focus on the ongoing struggle against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) which is threatening security in the Middle East region and indeed in Turkey.
Foreign Ministry officials here pointed out that the meeting at this level is the first since France and Turkey signed a "strategic cooperation agreement" last January during a visit here by Turkish President Recep Taytip Erdogan.
"The two ministers will broach the principal regional questions and notably the situation in Iraq and Syria," the French Foreign Ministry said.
Bilateral subjects will also be addressed in the framework of a plan of action adopted last January for the period 2014-2016.
In this framework, parallel talks with business representatives in the areas of tourism and other economic domains will be held. (end) jk.mt
