Kuwait to host World Crafts Council award in 2016

KUWAIT, Sept 29 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature (NCCAL) said on Monday that Kuwait would host the upcoming arbitration of excellence awards of the World Crafts Council-Asia Pacific Region (WCC-APR) slated for 2016. The event is held twice every year.
In a press statement on Monday, the NCCAL said that Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, who also doubles the NCCAL, agreed on a proposal for hosting the event.
Kuwait currently chairs the rotating premiership of the WCC-APR, the statement added.
It pointed out that Indonesia hosted the event last August in which 114 craftspeople out of 253 won excellence awards from West Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia and the South Pacific.
The program of the award was established in cooperation with the UNESCO and the society for development handicrafts in ASEAN Group in 2001, it added.
The award aims at encouraging craftspeople to produce pieces by using skills, designs and elements of the traditional decoration to be one a quality standard, according to the statement.
Winners will get certificates of appreciation and their pieces will be circulated on the website of the WCC-APR. (end) has.abd.hm
