NEW YORK, Sept 25 (KUNA) -- Kuwait is fully committed to complying with a UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution on foreign terrorist fighters as one of the sponsors, a senior government official has said, while expressing concern over insecurity in Yemen.
The UNSC member countries, in a session chaired by US President Barack Obama, late on Wednesday, unanimously approved resolution 2178 under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, aimed at tightening the grip on foreign fighters in conflict zones.
The 27-article resolution "urges nations to cooperate in the cessation of funding, training recruiting, movement and use of modern technology," used by the foreign terrorist fighters, First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) and Kuwait TV, late last night.
"Terrorism has no faith no nationality nor a civilization," he asserted.
"All of us as UN member states should cooperate to eliminate this dangerous threat," said Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, who is in the official delegation accompanying His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, who was representing His Highness the Amir sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
"We are pleased to be one of the sponsors of this resolution and to work hard with UN member countries to comply with its article, and affirm our commitment to it," he added.
The resolution was sponsored by more than 100 countries.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, meanwhile, expressed concern over the state of insecurity in Yemen despite an agreement signed between the government and the Houthiآ’s Ansar Allah group.
"Yemen is witnessing a critical phase in its history. Although we expect a breakthrough following the agreement but the circumstances are showing otherwise," he said.
"The state of insecurity in Yemen and deterioration of the (security) conditions make us very concern over the situation in Yemen," added Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, who attended a meeting on the Friends of Yemen yesterday.
He urged the Yemeni parties to comply with the GCC initiative and its executive mechanism as well as outcome of the national dialogue to ultimately hold parliamentary and presidential elections.
He said the Friends of Yemen meeting was a message of support for the Yemeni people.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled also participated in a meeting over Syria, with head of the Syrian opposition National Council Hadi Bahra attending.
The meeting, he added, aimed at sending a message of support for the Syrian people for the sake of reaching a peaceful solution based on the communique of the Geneva I.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said the large numbers of human casualties, displaced and refugees were "very painful." He participated in the Security Council high-level Summit on Foreign Terrorist Fighters on Tuesday evening. During the session, the members adopted unanimously resolution 2178 on preventing the travel of foreign terrorist fighters to Syria and Iraq as well as limiting their threats on their countries of origin.
