Syrian opposition acknowledges US air strikes

(WITH MIL-US-SYRIA) AMMAN, Sept 23 (KUNA) -- The Syrian opposition media acknowledged on Tuesday that American warplanes carried out strikes on targets in the northern Syrian village of Kfar Deryan and said at least 10 people died in the unprecedented attacks.
"Syria Mubasher," a media network of the Syrian National Coalition, said the jet fighters bombed targets in Idlib's rural areas in the north, kilometers from areas controlled by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
At least 10 people died and more than 20 others, mostly women and children, were wounded in the air raids, "Syria Mubasher" said, adding that activists broadcast pictures of workers pulling dead human bodies from under rubble of demolished buildings.
The opposition network, quoting unnamed activists in the northern village, said the US warplanes carried out four sorties on farms near the village, adding that the farms were suspected of being used by the opposition movement, Al-Nusra Front, as arms depots. Several rockets targeted civilians' houses in the village.
It also quoted medical sources as saying that the attacks inflicted a large number of injuries, and that some of the wounded suffered serious cuts. A large number of those hurt in the attacks were transported to hospitals in Turkey.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said in a statement that 22 US raids targeted posts manned by the ISIL fighters in Al-Boukamal and nearby areas. It said "there were confirmed reports about casualties in the ISIL ranks." The air attacks also targeted ISIL bases west of Deir Al-Zor, in addition to a series of strikes on locations in Al-Reqqa.
Syrian Foreign Ministry, meanwhile, issued a statement re-confirming that Washington had informed the Syrian authorities in advance about the planned strikes against the ISIL positions in Syria.
Meanwhile, a military source told the official Syrian news agency, SANA, that Israel shot down a Syrian warplane "breaching UN resolutions that call for fighting terrorism." The source said the Israeli action violated the UN resolution 2170. (end) tk.rk
