Olympic Council of Asia honors two Kuwaiti sportsmen
INCHEON, South Korea, Sept 20 (KUNA) -- The 33rd General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) headed by Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah honored Saturday two sportsmen from Kuwait, namely Khaled Ahmad Al-Hamad and Yusuf Al-Shahin Al-Ghanim.
They were granted the medal of the OCA in recognition of their efforts in sports in the presence of the President of International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach, members of the general Assembly and a host of international and regional sports figures.
Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah, Director General of the Public Authority for Youth and Sports Sheikh Ahmad Al-Mansour Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Chairman of the Kuwait Olympic Committee Sheikh Talal Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah also were present at the honoring ceremony.
In a statement to KUNA, Al-Hamad voiced his joy for that honoring during the Asian Games, saying this move will establish the principles that sports calls for in its noble message.
He thanked Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad and members of the General Assembly for that move, praising achievements and development made by the OCA.
"It was a surprise to honor me as I was not waiting for any privileges for my efforts in serving sports and youth in the State of Kuwait," Al-Ghanim told KUNA.
The OCA also honored four senior officials including the President of the Organizing Committee of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games Kim Young-soo, vice president of Olympic Council of Asia Park Young-Soung, Secretary General of Myanmar Olympic Committee Khin Maung Lwin and the president of National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mirabror Usmanov.
