KUWAIT, Sept 20 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) will send a humanitarian convoy to Gaza on Tuesday, with aid, medications, foodstuffs and school bags, Chairman Hilal Al-Sayer said on Saturday.
The convoy includes 22 trucks carrying up to 400 tons of foodstuffs, 162 tons of medical supplies and 5,000 school bags for the Palestinians in the Strip, Al-Sayer added in press statement.
Several volunteers will accompany the convoy to Rafah crossing in Egypt, then into Gaza to distribute the aid on the people there in cooperation with the Gaza Health Ministry and the Palestinian Red Crescent.
Since the start of the Israeli aggression on Gaza in July, the KRCS has delivered some 10,000 food packages, 10,000 packages of medical supplies, 10,000 packages of blankets and upholstery and 18,000 clothing sets, in addition to 200,000 liters of fuel, he said.
Al-Sayer noted that the Society was keen to buy part of the supplies from the Egyptian market, 20,000 food baskets, 5,000 schools bags and medications worth USD 1 million. All of this has been provided to the victims of the Israeli attacks.
40,000 tons of medical supplies has also been delivered to Gaza through the Rafah crossing. The KRCS also offered two fully equipped ambulances to the Gaza Health Ministry and the Palestinian Red Crescent.
In addition, the donation campaign adopted by the KRCS for the Palestinian people in Gaza, raised up to USD 2 million, he said.
Al-Sayer stressed that the KRCS would carry on with spiritual and material support to Gazans at the behest of the Kuwaiti political leadership, as a humanitarian duty. (end) akw.tb.msa
