KUWAIT, Sept 20 (KUNA) -- Public Authority for Environment (PAE) stressed Saturday the importance of carrying out environmental inspection campaigns to protect land and marine lives, in accordance with the international treaties concerned.
Yesterday, an inspection campaign had confiscated 13 dipodidae (desert rodents) from Friday flee Market and were handed over to the Kuwait Zoo, member of the campaign Ahamd Al-Sayegh told KUNA.
This campaign is an implementation of Acts made by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 2003 and the Migratory Bird Treaty in 2005 that prohibits hunting those birds.
Kuwait joined CITES, the most important international environmental treaty, in 2002. It is an international agreement between governments that aims to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.
He added that CITES regulations are being seen through by PAE through carrying out inspection and awareness campaigns across country. (end) zak.nfm
