Kuwait praises Qatar's human right efforts

GENEVE, Sept 19 (KUNA) -- Kuwait commended during United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) here on Friday, the Qatari efforts in promoting, protecting and persevering human rights.
Qatar's efforts were clear in the review of its second periodical report on its role in protection and promotion of human rights, said Kuwaiti Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghoneim in speech to the council.
The Qatari report, presented to the council Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, shows the existence of a political will to promote and protect human rights, Al-Ghoneim added.
He lauded Qatari institutions' adoption of sustainable measures to deal with the UNHRC recommendations since the delivery of its report in April 2014, reflects Qatar's desire to abide by objectives and principles of the UNHRC.
Al-Ghoneim also applauded Qatar's acceptance of two Kuwaiti recommendations on the need to continue and strengthen relations the UN High Commissioner for human rights and to forge ahead with its humanitarian actions.
UNHRC reviews human rights situation in all countries every four years, to determine the extent of improvement and help countries that have not managed to raise recognized standards, he noted. (end) ta.hs
