Arab Parliament chief calls on EU to recognize Egypt's circumstances

CAIRO, Sept 17 (KUNA) -- President of Arab Parliament Ahmad Al-Jarwan called Wednesday on the European Union (EU) to recognize conditions Egypt is going through and understand accurately the developments on the ground.
The EU needs to respect the rulings of Egyptian courts and pay attention to the dangers and threats facing the country and the Middle East region at large, Al-Jarwan made the comments in a press release following an EU statement to the UN Human Rights Council regular session in Geneva.
The EU statement offers a negative assessment of human rights conditions in Egypt.
Arab Parliament chief expressed dismay at the EU statement, saying it did not take into consideration the positive steps being taken by Egypt to improve the political life despite the internal and regional threats posed by terrorist groups.
Al-Jarwan added that such dangers reached various countries in the Middle East and beyond, noting that urgent and swift action need to take place by the EU to show solidarity with Egypt and its fight against terrorism.
Al-Jarwan asserted the importance of supporting to Egyptian efforts in the combat against terrorism. (end) mfm.mb
