GCC municipality ministers meeting kicks off

KUWAIT, Sept 16 (KUNA) -- The 18th meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) municipal affairs ministers that kicked off here on Tuesday will spare no effort for realizing the expectations of the bloc's people, said Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of Communications Essa Ahmad Al-Kandari.
He added that the three-day meeting would endorse the bylaw of the municipal work prize and approve the municipal guidebook as well as deciding on establishing a website for the rules of municipal data, by private sector.
The meeting will also endorse recommendations submitted by specialized municipal workshops, in addition to those of a meeting held with the UN in Rabat last March, the Minister said. The 29th meeting of the GCC municipal senior officials was also held here today.
The ministerial meeting will carry on with the efforts to draw up draft recommendations that are likely to help develop joint municipal work, Director General of the Kuwait Municipality Engineer Ahmad Al-Sabeeh.
Addressing the opening session of the ministerial meeting, Al-Sabeeh added that participants would also discuss developing executive mechanisms that can help achieve sustainable development for the GCC cities and municipalities.
For his part, GCC Assistant Secretary General for Environment and Human Affairs Abdullah Al-Hashim, said that the ministerial meeting would carry on with the efforts to modernize municipal work systems for the welfare of the GCC people, in addition to upgrading the infrastructure in the member states.
He urged specialists to work on producing qualified GCC municipal cadres based on scientific and practical plans, as well as developing the training and qualification centers at the GCC states.
Meanwhile, Al-Hashim highlighted the recent honoring by the UN of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah naming him a 'Humanitarian Leader' and Kuwait a 'Humanitarian Center', saying it is a source of pride for all the GCC people. (end) am.nfa.msa
