BAGHDAD, Sept 12 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari said Friday his Saudi counterpart Prince Saud Al-Faisal has assured him that the Saudi Embassy would be reopened in Baghdad, but did not say when.
"Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal has told me in a private meeting between me and him, and then repeated it before all (Foreign) Ministers, that they will open their (Saudi) embassy in Baghdad and that they are not reluctant to open it," Jaafari said in a statement released by his office.
He was referring to a meeting that was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, yesterday where the foreign ministers of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the US, Egypt, Iraq, Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon and Secretary General of the Arab League Dr. Nabil Al-Araby, met to discuss threats posed by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
Jaafari said he explained the threats posed by ISIL not only on Iraq but the entire region, and how Iraqis were fleeing their homes fearing ISIL attacks.
He said: "we are serious in opening a new page of relations (with regional countries) based on common interest and jointly confronting the common dangers." (end) mhg.bs
