KUWAIT, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- His Highness the Chief of the National Guard Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on his honouring as a 'humanitarian leader' at the UN on Tuesday.
On behalf of the National Guard, he spoke of appreciation of the international organisation's initiative to honour the "utterly generous positions our dear nation is known for." He described "this glittering initiative" as a "deserved decleration for the continuing generosity of His Highness (the Amir) and our nation (Kuwait) under all humanitarian fields.
It also comes to honour the role Kuwait and its rulers are committed to, in supporting the easing of suffering and strife of nations, and supporting global institutions and humanitarian organisations, he added.
These designations are "true evidence of the position of Kuwait and its ruler in the hearts of nations of the world. Congratulations to Your Highness and to this dear nation for this well-desrved appreciation and honour," he concluded.
His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali delivered the comments after His Highness the Amir received an accolade for his humanitarian efforts, which included Kuwait's designation as a 'humanitarian centre' in New York.
In response to the warm sentiments, His Highness the Amir said that he had received with "full appreciation" the message of congratulations.
"We would like to express our profound gratitude over the expressions of warmth, honesty and prayer from yourselves and the Kuwaiti people.
"We ensure that this honouring was achieved thanks to God Almighty and the efforts of our loyal people, who have responded to the humanitarian calls in aid of those in need and in strife.
"They (the people of Kuwait) have embodied the characteristics of the people of Kuwait since olden times, of love for carrying out good deeds, generosity and giving.
"This honouring from the United Nations of our dear nation has come to ensure to the whole world the noble role the State of Kuwait is assuming in the field of humanitarian and relief work, which is a cause for pride of every (Kuwaiti) citizen," he concluded. (end) sd
