FAO: UN honoring of His Highness Amir in recognition for his relentless aid efforts

ROME, Sept 8 (KUNA) -- UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Director General Jose Graziano Da Silva said Monday naming His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a Humanitarian Leader was in recognition for his relentless efforts and work in the international arena.
In a statement, Da Silva said that he joins others in the world in expressing his utmost appreciation for His Highness the Amir as a Humanitarian leader and for the State of Kuwait as Humanitarian Center for their role around the world.
The FAO chief also expressed keenness to shed light on His Highness the Amir's tremendous efforts in fighting poverty and boosting food security in the world.
"We all remember his initiative in 2012 through helping Somalia during its suffering of poverty and drought," Da Silva said, adding other initiatives were also made, and the establishment of the KFAED's Goodwill Fund and hosting two Syrian donors' conferences.
Last year, FAO honored the State of Kuwait for leading 18 other member countries out of 197 member countries that reached the World Food summit's goal for the year 2015.
The UN is scheduled to hold a ceremony to honor the Kuwaiti leader tomorrow in New York. (end) mn.mb
