ISTANBUL, Sept 8 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's General Consul in Istanbul Sheikh Fahad Salem Al-Sabah said Monday the UN honoring of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as Humanitarian Leader and Kuwait as Humanitarian Center is an international recognition of the country's efforts in the humanitarian work field.
The UN's honoring of His Highness the Amir also represents an international recognition of his effort in various humanitarian fields, Sheikh Fahad stated to KUNA, noting this honoring also represents an honor for all Kuwaitis for their charity works.
He also pointed out that His Highness the Amir was the first to host the first and second Donors' Conference in Kuwait in 2013 and 2014 for support and relief of Syrian people and Syrian refugees with participation of 69 countries, as well as a number of humanitarian nongovernment organizations.
The Kuwaiti diplomat noted His Highness the Amir's keenness in alleviating the suffering of people in conflict-stricken countries such as Gaza Strip, Sudan, Yemen, Iraq, and a number of Asian and African countries, attributing the UN's naming of Kuwait as a Humanitarian Center due to the country's love to charity for all people around the world regardless of their language, ethnicity, or religion.
He said UN's naming of His Highness the Amir as Humanitarian Leader and Kuwait as Humanitarian Center "is a source of pride for all of us." Kuwait, under with its Humanitarian Leader, became a pioneer in philanthropic initiatives around the world, and a role model in all humanitarian fields, Sheikh Fahad said, adding that the State of Kuwait was carrying a civilized humanitarian message by its wise leadership and sponsorship of charity works.
