ROME, Sept 3 (KUNA) -- Kuwait, on Wednesday,, donated USD 225,000 for the UN's World Food Programme (WFP) to help provide for some 2.4 million orphans in North Korea.
The donation was handed in by Kuwait's Ambassador to Italy Sheikh Ali Al-Khaled Al-Sabah to WFP Executive Director Ertharin Cousin at the Rome-based organization.
The Kuwaiti Ambassador told KUNA that he discussed deepening partnership and vocational cooperation between the Programme and Kuwaiti concerned bodies in order to benefit from expertise the UN entity has in the fields of training and recruiting, and to further discuss such issue in the future.
On her part, Cousin expressed deepest gratitude for Kuwait's generous donation, as well as her intention to visit Kuwait and personally thank its leadership, government and charitable bodies for the pioneering role they play in the developmental and humanitarian domains.
A total of USD 79.5 million was donated by Kuwait in 2013 and first half of 2014, all contributing to the WFP operations that currently serve around 80 million people in 75 countries, including four millions in Syria alone. (end) mn.hb
